The first time I held an Oscar — for Toy Story 3, the first film I ever worked on.
I'm an oil painter and filmmaker in the San Francisco Bay Area.
For eighteen years I shaded the worlds of Pixar Animation Studios — from Toy Story 3 and Coco to Elio, where I led the environment shading team. Everything I know about light, I learned twice: once at the easel, once at the render farm.
My painting Cyberlove was selected for The de Young Open 2023 at the de Young Museum, San Francisco, and sold on opening day. I'm currently directing a feature documentary on master plein air painter Kevin Macpherson, and exploring what a classically trained eye can teach generative AI.
